Ok, I know this doesn’t sound very exciting, but let me explain a little. A couple of days ago I tried beatboxing for the first time and loved it: it’s something I know do mindlessly around the house, much to my husband’s amusement. I try and mix the sounds up but often struggle with the flow, so my husband suggested recording the individual sounds and mixing them to create a cool drum loop – so that’s what we did!
I have literally zero experience in this area, so I relied on James to show me the ropes. We already have a half-decent microphone, so we hooked it up to Garage Band and got to work.

I didn’t really have any idea of what sort of beat I wanted, so I found a beginners drum beats video for some inspiration. From there I tried to recreate some of the sounds for the beats I like and then learnt some Garage Band skills to put them all together.
I really hear the opening to Song 2 by Blur in there, so this could be the basis for another new thing, and I’ll try and recreate the song. I really enjoyed this, it felt so cool to listen back to the track and know that I had created all those noises. Garage Band was a little confusing to use, but once I got the hang of it, I was cutting and splicing and creating all on my own. Such a fun and different new thing for me to try: yet another thing I would have never have done if it wasn’t for this challenge.
