I’m very fortunate and grateful to live close-by to a forest, I feel it even more so at the moment. I’m at my best when I’m surrounded by nature, and I know that I would not do well at the moment if I lived in the middle of the city. So on a sunny, Spring day, during social isolation, my husband and I went on a stroll through the forest and I hugged a tree.

I’m not sure what I thought I’d feel doing this – I didn’t have any kind of enlightenment and I didn’t feel moved by it, in fact, I was more concerned with bugs getting on my face than anything else. Still, I think it was a nice way to connect to and embrace my nature-loving side, even if I don’t end up doing it again. Rather than switching off and idly chatting whilst we walked, we became much more conscious of our location, noticing the different trees, or wildlife in the forest. A very happy result from a spontaneous new thing.
